Fermata Energy was founded for the dual purposes of accelerating the adoption of EVs and accelerating the transition to a renewable energy future. Our technology provides EV owners with an additional revenue stream for their vehicles: as energy storage. By allowing EVs to provide power to buildings and stored energy to the grid in addition to receiving it, Fermata hopes to make EVs cost competitive and increase adoption of renewable power.

Fermata Energy commercializes technologies that enable electric vehicles to provide energy storage services to the electric power grid while lowering the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles. Because electric vehicles remain parked and unused much of the time, they are an underutilized asset. Our bi-directional charger and software technology leverage EVs to provide energy storage services on behalf of commercial and government fleets to reduce their operating costs.
Fermata has established a bi-directional EV demonstration project in Danville, VA. In that project, four Nissan LEAFs and four bi-directional DC fast chargers have been deployed by Fermata and are being used by local fleet operators. These V2G assets are being used by the municipal and commercial fleet operators to provide logistics services during business hours, and when the vehicles are parked, they are used by Fermata to provide new energy storage services including ancillary services for the grid and demand charge management for the site customer. The project has been registered and operational since November, 2016.
